MotoGP title leader Jorge Lorenzo's Mugello test included a different Yamaha engine specification 'to help us choose the direction to work in for the future'.

That's 'racer speak' for saying the new engine spec didn't provide a positive enough result to be introduced straight away.

But having dominated the Italian Grand Prix weekend, and set the fastest time at the test, Lorenzo and his M1 are continuing to set the standard.

"Today we did 40 laps," said Lorenzo. "We worked on improving the settings of the bike compared to the race and also tried some different engine specification to help us choose the direction to work in for the future."

Lorenzo finished the test with a best lap time 0.114s ahead of Honda's Dani Pedrosa. Pedrosa, also second in the race, is 19 points behind Lorenzo in the championship.

Lorenzo's team-mate Ben Spies did not test as he continues to recover from the illness which hampered his race.

Round ten of the MotoGP championship takes place at Laguna Seca, USA from July 27-29.
