Ben Spies will be aiming to break his 2012 MotoGP podium drought by claiming a first US GP rostrum in this weekend's Laguna Seca round.
The Texan, who has celebrated MotoGP podium finishes twice at the Indianapolis round, has a best Laguna Seca result of fourth place, last year.
With his Factory Yamaha future yet to be announced, a rostrum on the eve of the summer break would also do no harm to his hopes of retaining an official M1 ride alongside Jorge Lorenzo next year.
Spies has won three times at Laguna Seca as an AMA rider.
“It's always special racing in front of your home crowd,” said Spies, who arrives at round ten just tenth in the world championship.
“It's been a pretty rough season so far but we'll see if we can turn it round here, put on a good show for all my fans and change it up for the second half of the year.
“We had some great results here before in AMA and not so bad on my first two MotoGP visits. It's going to be great to see some old faces around the track over the weekend too.”
