PBM Aprilia's James Ellison has his sights set on scoring MotoGP points for the fifth event in a row, this weekend at Laguna Seca, as he seeks to reel in the CRT leading Aspar Aprilia riders.
Frenchman Randy de Puniet presently leads the privateer CRT challenge, holding twelfth in the championship with 28 points. Team-mate Aleix Espargaro is two points behind, with Ellison 16th in the championship and 16 points from de Puniet.
Ellison spent a season racing in the American AMA Superbike series after leaving MotoGP at the end of 2006.
"I'm really excited to be racing back in the USA as it's my second home and I just love being in America,” said Ellison. “Laguna Seca is in my top three all time favourite tracks so to be riding it on the Aprilia which I'm really enjoying riding at the minute will be awesome!
“We made a step forward with the upgraded swinging arm in Mugello which gave us more grip and we have one in the second bike this weekend too so that should help us. I need to start clawing some points back on the Aspar riders in CRT so as usual I'll be digging deep."
Ellison finished 13th in the 2006 US GP for Tech 3 Yamaha.
