Redding to test MotoGP Ducati

Scott Redding and Andrea Iannone testing for Ducati this week.
Scott Redding will join fellow Moto2 star Andrea Iannone in testing for the Ducati MotoGP team at Mugello this week.

Factory racer Nicky Hayden is the only Ducati MotoGP rider so far signed for 2013, with team-mate Valentino Rossi still to decide his future.

While Redding and Iannone are unlikely to be in contention for the factory seat, should Rossi return to Yamaha, they are believed to be firmly in the frame for a satellite Desmosedici ride.

Uncertainly surrounds the future of the present single-rider Pramac (Hector Barbera) and Cardion AB (Karel Abraham) entries, but Ducati appears keen to ensure it has a 'Junior Team' structure in which to develop future MotoGP stars.

Redding, winner of the 2008 125cc British Grand Prix, has taken five podiums in Moto2 for the Marc VDS team, but his physical size means he is generally acknowledged to be at a disadvantage on the Honda-powered 600c bikes.

Eight time Moto2 race winner Iannone, joint second in the 2012 standings, tested an 800cc Pramac Ducati at Mugello last season.

Iannone's Speed Master team stepped up to MotoGP with a CRT entry for Mattia Pasini this year, although there are rumours the team's ART machines could be handed to Forward Racing from Indianapolis.

Moto2 riders Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) and Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Yamaha) have already signed 2013 MotoGP deals.
