Alvaro Bautista feels he is getting back to the form that had him scaling the MotoGP order two months ago as he set the seventh fastest time in free practice at Indianapolis.

The Spaniard has endured a series of tough races since he was embroiled in a controversial collision with Jorge Lorenzo at the start of the Dutch TT, the Spaniard struggling to replicate the form that had him on pole position and challenging for the podium at Silverstone.

Nonetheless, after proving one of the highest-placed satellite riders around the American circuit in FP2, Bautista declared the Gresini Honda is back to where it was prior to his particularly tough Mugello and Laguna Seca rounds.

"I felt like I had my feeling from before Mugello and Laguna back," he said. "We tried two different settings and worked hard, especially in the afternoon because the track conditions were not so good this morning. In the end we went with our base setting because I felt more comfortable with it.

"I tried to get my references and find the limit on the hard tyres and I am quite satisfied. Now we have to keep this positive progress going tomorrow to perform to our full potential."
