Crutchlow: I wouldn't say it's the surface

“I just think they gave it a bit too much gas, and that's it” – Cal Crutchlow.
Tech 3 Yamaha rider Cal Crutchlow believes riders pushing to the limit was the cause of the big accidents suffered by Casey Stoner, Ben Spies and Nicky Hayden during Indianapolis qualifying.

All three suffered highside falls after losing the rear through the Turn 13-14 left handers, with many blaming the slippery infield surface.

"What Nicky did there is what I did yesterday. It's just unfortunate," said Crutchlow. "It's one of them things, a long corner. We've got 1000cc motorcycles, a lot of power and not enough grip.

"I wouldn't say it's the track. It's not just about that. If it's slippery, you've got to learn to learn ride it...

"It's qualifying. Everyone was twisting the gas. Nobody was off line. If you're off line and crashed, then it's different. I just think they gave it a bit too much gas, and that's it.

"How many times have we seen Casey do that then hold it and mange to make the slide. I just think that corner, maybe it was a bit too much. Also, Nicky, he [shut] off. He did what I did. He got halfway, then [shut] off and ended up falling on the inside.

"It's a shame the guys [are] out. No one wants to see anyone hurt in racing."

Hayden has been ruled out of the race, Spies intends to ride with an injure shoulder, while a question mark remains over the fitness of Stoner after sustaining an ankle injury.

Crutchlow qualified seventh on the grid and is concerned by his top speed.

"We've got a few corners to improve on. Turn 2, 3 and 4 we've got to work on. Then also the last corner. But our bike is sh*t-slow for some reason.

"I haven't got a clue why. We haven't done anything different for this weekend. The engine's fresh enough, but the bike's slow in a straight line.

“I even shaved my head earlier to try to make it faster, but no luck.”

Crutchlow's best top speed in qualifying was 331.0km/h, compared with 335.5km/h by the fastest M1 of Jorge Lorenzo. Crutchlow's team-mate Andrea Dovizioso will start Sunday's race from the front row.
