After a catalogue of race day problems, Ben Spies will be hoping that this weekend's round 13 proves to be a lucky number.

The outgoing Factory Yamaha rider, who looks set to ride a satellite Ducati next season, has failed to even finish the last three events and is languishing tenth in the championship standings.

Few would have believed that Spies would be without a podium after twelve rounds and the Texan has his fingers crossed for a trouble free weekend as he seeks to beat a season-best fourth place.

Spies has finished sixth on his two previous Misano MotoGP appearances, venue for this weekend's San Marino Grand Prix, but was a winner at the track in World Superbike.

"Misano is a track I really enjoy riding, I've had some great races here. I think if we'd had a couple more laps last year then I could have maybe been past Andrea [Dovizioso] and Marco [Simoncelli]," said Spies.

"It's been an unbelievable year but we'll give it 100% as always this weekend and fingers crossed it'll be trouble free and we can show our true potential."
