Thursday, on the eve of the San Marino MotoGP weekend, saw a lap of honour for local star Marco Simoncelli, who lost his life in last October's Malaysian race.
The Italian track has been renamed 'Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli' in Simoncelli's honour and the bicycle lap - which involved riders from all three grand prix classes - also marked the end of The Cycle of Wishes
fundraiser, from Donington Park to Misano, led by 1993 500cc world champion Kevin Schwantz.

“When you come here, with the circuit named after Marco, there is more feeling about his loss. We have to try to do a good race for Marco and for his family,” said Valentino Rossi.
2012 World Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo added: “Marco was one of the stars of the championship. A very good rider, charismatic, he moved a lot of people, he had a lot of fans. I think it's a good thing that they changed the name of the track. He deserves it.
“With Shoya Tomizawa [who died at Misano in 2010], we were also very sad when this dramatic thing happened in 2010. We still have memories of these two guys. We always remember them.”
“It's a great honour for Misano to be able to name their circuit after Marco. Not the other way around,” commented Cal Crutchlow. “You only have to look at the fans, all wearing the t-shirts, to see the character he was.”
