Rossi, Rea talk Lorenzo, Pedrosa MotoGP title battle
13 September 2012
Valentino Rossi and Jonathan Rea feel the pressure will be the same for 2012 MotoGP title contenders Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa.
Lorenzo (Yamaha) leads fellow Spaniard Pedrosa (Honda) by a reduced 13-points heading into this weekend's Misano round, the first of six remaining races.
Rossi, a winner of seven premier-class titles, said: “Dani has had a lot of seasons fighting for the championship for half the season, and never to the end because of some physical problems.
"Dani was never able to have a whole season at 100 per cent, so maybe for Dani this is an extra motivation - and also to try to win his first MotoGP championship.
“But anyway, Jorge is very strong under pressure and has the same motivation, so the situation is more or less similar for them both.”
While Rossi has raced full time in grand prix since 1996, Rea is making his debut this weekend, in place of the injured Casey Stoner at Repsol Honda.
Indeed, the World Superbike star is more used to watching Lorenzo and Pedrosa race on TV, and as a consequence simply hopes they put on a good show.
“This isn't like a school sports day. It's a MotoGP World Championship. So I think the pressure is the same for both riders. They both want it as much,” began Rea.
“It's going to be fun - especially for me because after two MotoGP races I get to say 'ciao' and go back to the sofa and watch these guys on TV!
“So I hope for my sake on the sofa that they provide great entertainment.
“It's nice to be able to watch MotoGP and see a proper race like in Brno. As Valentino said, because of injuries or whatever, normally in the past one guy has gone away with the championship.
“But Brno was one of the most exciting races I've seen in a long time and I hope we can see many more races like that.”
