Xavier Simeon tops times in wet FP2 at Misano

Xavier Simeon draws first blood on day one of practice at Misano
Xavier Simeon put Tech 3 Racing at the top of the Moto2 pile in a wet FP2 at Misano this afternoon, narrowly facing down the challenge of Claudio Corti.

Simeon's fastest lap of 1m 51.874s gave him a slender 0.161s over the Kalex rider, with Italian Andrea Iannone taking third, just under half a second off the leader's pace.

Title favourite Marc Marquez was 12th fastest in the difficult conditions.

Johann Zarco, who enjoyed a spell at the head of the times before sliding off at the final corner in a carbon copy of Scott Redding's fall this morning, ended FP2 in fourth place.

Marc VDS ace Mika Kallio, who crashed out uninjured later in the session and Julian Simon on the Blusens Avintia Suter rounded out the top six, with Simon 0.8s adrift of Simeon's fastest lap.

Thomas Luthi was seventh on his Suter, while British rider Bradley Smith was ninth on the second Tech 3 machine, 1.153s from the top, with fellow Briton Gino Rea 11th.

Scott Redding ended the session in 17th position on the Marc VDS Racing Kalex, one position ahead of Pol Espargaro in 18th, who currently holds second place in the championship table.
