Dovizioso 'convinced' of rostrum assault
15 September 2012
Andrea Dovizioso remains “convinced” he will be in the hunt for a rostrum result at Misano tomorrow after qualifying his Tech 3 Yamaha in seventh place.
The Italian, who will become a factory Ducati rider at the end of this season, admitted he was far from satisfied with his position on the third row of the grid for the San Marino MotoGP round, but remains upbeat over his prospects of achieving a top three finish in front of his home fans.
“I can't be satisfied with the work we did when I am only seventh on the grid,” said Dovizioso.
“We should have done a better job but I am still on the third row and I am convinced I can fight for the podium tomorrow.
“It is going to be a very difficult race because we are going into the unknown a little bit with so much track time lost because of the weather,” he added.
“It will be a bit of a gamble on the set-up but we did manage to gather a lot of good data this afternoon and I know we will be competitive.”
Dovizioso was among a number of leading MotoGP contenders who did not complete a timed lap at Misano yesterday, when poor weather resulted in slippery surface conditions at the Italian venue.
“Hopefully tomorrow the weather is good and I can avoid any problems at the first two turns, where it is very tight,” added Dovizioso.
“I need to make a good start and I am looking forward to battling for another podium in front of my home crowd again.”
