Red Bull KTM Ajo's Sandro Cortese says his victory at Misano last weekend was “one of his best ever”.
Cortese is closing in on the Moto3 title after stretching his lead at the top of the standings to 46 points following his superb triumph in the San Marino Grand Prix.
It was his third victory and 11th podium finish of the season, putting clear daylight between him and nearest challenger Maverick Vinales.
Cortese, who stalked Italian favourite Romano Fenati for the majority of the race before making his three laps before the end, also had to fend off a final-lap challenge from Vinales to take the chequered flag from Luis Salom and Fenati.
“One of my best victories, but at the same time also one of my hardest races,” reflected Cortese.
“During the last two laps I gave 200 per cent of myself because the last half of the lap is easier to ride alone than within the group of five.
“It was occasionally hard to keep my concentration because I knew that Maverick was coming fast behind me.”
