Zarco leads pack in atrocious conditions at Aragon

Inclement weather mars FP2 as Johann Zarco tops times despite succumbing to conditions late in session, Marquez also among fallers
Johann Zarco prevailed in atrocious conditions at Aragon to qualify fastest in this afternoon's second Moto2 free practice session.

The JIR rider managed a fastest lap of 2m 07.844s to keep his nose in front of Alex De Angelis, who was 0.290s behind.

De Angelis, though, was denied the chance to improve on his time after crashing out at the mid-way point in the session.

Zarco also went down in the worsening conditions in the final seven minutes as a number of riders fell victim to the slippery Aragon surface, including Mika Kallio on his Kalex and championship leader Marc Marquez.

Thomas Luthi held third place on his Suter, 0.346s off Zarco's best effort, with Gino Rea an excellent fourth.

British rider Rea leapt from eighth position to fourth on his Federal Oil Gresini Moriwaki with six minutes remaining on the clock, almost 0.6s off the pace.

Claudio Corti and Italian Andrea Iannone, who led the way in FP1 this morning, were the leading six.

Title favourite Marquez ended the afternoon in 13th place, 1.6s in arrears, as key rival Pol Esparago finished 11th.

British pair Scott Redding (Marc VDS Kalex) and Bradley Smith (Tech 3) were 14th and 15th respectively.
