Lorenzo saves engine on way to third

“Ben and Dani were very fast, but the important thing is we made a good comfortable pace” – Jorge Lorenzo.
Jorge Lorenzo got another chance to save some engine mileage as he sat out the damp Friday morning MotoGP practice session at Aragon.

The Spaniard was far from alone in deciding it was not worth venturing out, but it marked the second event in a row where weather conditions allowed Lorenzo to claw back some of the mileage lost when an engine expired after he was brought down at Assen.

Having tested at the circuit alongside Honda earlier this month, Lorenzo and Factory Yamaha team-mate Ben Spies already have a dry set-up to fall back on - but both took to the track to work on a wet setting in the soaking afternoon session.

Spies was fastest in the rain, followed closely by Honda's Dani Pedrosa. Lorenzo ended the day 0.461s behind his title rival in third, but confident in his pace.

“In the morning we could have practiced but we preferred to stay in the box and save the engine life a little,” confirmed Lorenzo.

“This afternoon with full wet conditions we could go out and see what the feeling is with the bike in the rain in case we have a wet race on Sunday.

“The track is very slippery, we did a lot of laps trying to find the pace but we didn't try to do one hot lap.

“Ben and Dani were very fast but the important thing is we made a good comfortable pace.”

Lorenzo starts round 14 of 18 holding a commanding 38 point advantage over Pedrosa.

Lorenzo has a nice healthy cushion of 38 points on Pedro,so if we have a wet race on Sunday he doesnt want to push too hard.Just keep steady and get on the podium kid! You dont need to win this race.Let the others make the mistakes.
