Moto2: Toni Elias returns with Italtrans

Toni Elias to Italtrans for remaining rounds, Julian Simon for 2013?
Toni Elias will return to Moto2 action for the final four rounds of the 2012 season.

According to Motociclismo, the inaugural 2010 champion - who split from the Aspar team after Mugello, then substituted for the injured Hector Barbera at the Pramac Ducati MotoGP team - is to race for the Italtrans Kalex squad in place of Claudio Corti.

Corti is tenth in the championship with one podium this year, a second place in the wet at Le Mans. Japanese Takaaki Nakagami rides the other Italtrans entry.

Elias had also been linked with a return to Gresini, with whom he won the Moto2 title on a Moriwaki chassis. However Gresini switched to Suter earlier in the year, the same brand that Elias struggled to adapt to at Aspar.

Elias may be viewing the Italtrans ride as a short-term fix, with Motociclismo also reporting that fellow Spaniard Julian Simon - currently at Avintia Blusens - has signed with the team for 2013 season.

Simon is said to be keen to ride a Kalex.

Barbera is expected to ride for Avintia in MotoGP next year.

@motomoto .. Perenial back marker? Yeah, he's had a rough go the past two years, but he was the Moto2 champion for a reason. He rode brilliantly that year, and in a variety of conditions. The year prior to his championship he was 7th overall in GP. Most would say that he didn't even deserve the demotion to Moto2, and he even crossed the line ahead of Dovi on the Repsol on several occasions. Yeah, his style is peculiar, and requires finer tuning, but this is the big leagues - not your average club race. If your tools aren't at their sharpest, you will falter at this level. eg: VR
