Moto3: Kornfeil to replace Salom at RW

"Jakub has shown a lot of potential and we strongly believe is a new boost for the team" - Johan Stigefelt, RW Racing.

With Moto3 race winner Luis Salom having confirmed that he will be leaving RW Racing to join the Red Bull Ajo team for 2013, the Dutch team has tabbed Jakub Kornfeil as his replacement.

The Czech rider is currently 15th in the Moto3 standings with the Redox-Ongetta-Centro Seta (FTR Honda) team, having scored 58 points.

"I'm very happy to have signed with my new team," said Kornfeil. "RW Racing GP has shown it is a competitive team with a competitive bike. I'm really looking forward to working with this team."

Kornfeil's pedigree was established in 2009 when he won the Red Bull Rookies crown and since then he has been a solid performer in the 125cc and Moto3 classes.

This year has seen some encouraging performances, including a host of top ten qualifying berths, but for the most part has been unable to translate his one lap speed into competitive races.

Kornfeil will be hoping that the change to Kalex-KTM machinery will allow him to make that step next season.

The RW squad has performed exceptionally this year with Salom. The Spaniard has won twice and had eight podium finishes so there will be heavy expectations placed on Kornfeil's shoulders next season.

Team boss, Johan Stigefelt, was keen to stress that even with Salom leaving the focus remains on his championship challenge:

“We still have four races to go and Luis Salom still has the world title within reach,” said the former GP racer. “That remains our goal for the near future.”

The Swede went on to comment about his new recruit and said that, “We have been watching Jakub closely for a while already. He has shown a lot of potential and we strongly believe is a new boost for the team.

“We continue to work with Kalex KTM and we hope this collaboration will bring us the results we are having this year.”

Yeah Kornfeil hasn't raced in the Rookies Cup since 2009, He's been in 125s/Moto3 since 2010. I think you may be mistaken Jakub for Karel Hanika, the extremely quick 16 year old who finished 3rd in the Cup this season and he was a rookie, he has a huge future ahead of him. But back to the topic Kornfeil has been solid if unspectacular this season, hopefully this move can bring a first podium for him.
