Stoner: HRC haven’t asked me to help

“They haven't asked. I don't believe they will” - Casey Stoner.
Casey Stoner does not expect Honda to impose any team orders to try and help Dani Pedrosa's MotoGP title chances.

Pedrosa trails Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo by 33-points with just four rounds to go, starting at Motegi this weekend, where double world champion Stoner is returning to action after missing three races due to ankle injuries.

Pedrosa recently stated that he would not ask Stoner to help his title challenge and on Thursday the Australian repeated his own long-standing objection to team orders.

“They [Honda] haven't asked. I don't believe they will,” said Stoner of team orders.

“As I've always said in the past, for me championships are won fair and outright and not as a result of a team-mate helping out.

“So as far as I know there will be none of that.”

Stoner, who has won four races this year, had been 32-points behind Lorenzo at the time of his Indianapolis accident.

“We were confident in the last part of the season, to definitely have a good shot at the championship still. Even though we had quite a points' deficit,” reflected Stoner.

“There are a lot of tracks that go around to the left and we've always generally gone a lot better on the end of season circuits.”

Looking at the Lorenzo/Pedrosa contest, Stoner added: “Dani is also quite fast at the end of the season and you never really know what is going to happen in this championship.

“They've both been doing the best job they can. Dani got quite unlucky at Misano, but the same thing happened earlier in the season with Jorge.

“We'll have to see how things pan out in the end.”

While Stoner is unsure how effective he will be until he gets on the bike, Pedrosa expects him to be in contention for victory on Sunday.

“It's good to have him back. We will see how he feels on the bike, but he is always competitive so I don't see why he can't be fast,” said the Spaniard. “So maybe three of us [fighting] for the race win - and also Dovi is very fast here.”

Stoner is to retire from MotoGP at the end of this season, at the age of 27.

Casey who? - Unregistered

What did you expect? This guy is well known for his petulant behaviour. If he can't win it then there is no way he would help another HRC rider cast a shadow on his achievements with the team. Looks like Dani is on his own but anything is possible if Jorge DNF's in the next couple of races...
