Ben Spies: 100% for Sic
17 October 2012
Ben Spies heads for this weekend's Malaysian MotoGP - and one-year anniversary of Marco Simoncelli's tragic accident - intending to honour Simoncelli 'in the best way we know'.
Spies withdrew from last year's Malaysian race after struggling with injuries from the previous Australian event and was a special guest for Dorna's live TV commentary when Simoncelli's accident occurred.
“It's a strange feeling to come back here after last year. We will honour 'Sic' in the best way we know how, by going out on track and giving 100% as always,” said Spies.
The Texan returns to Sepang fresh from the latest twist in his nightmare 2012 season - brake problems causing him to run-off and fall while holding third place early in last Sunday's Japanese GP.
“Last weekend was yet another disappointment with brake issues, I really hope we can have a trouble free time here in Sepang and show our true podium potential,” said Spies, who is just tenth in the Championship, with five non-scores.
Spies has only competed once at Sepang, taking fourth place in his rookie 2010 season, but knows the track well from winter testing.
“With very positive test results in the pre-season we are confident that Ben will also show his true potential here and we expect a trouble-free weekend to allow him to do that,” said team director Massimo Meregalli.
