Rossi fifth at Sepang, backs decision to stop race

'I think the decision to stop was correct because in these conditions, the bikes can aquaplane and you can go down in any corner' - Valentino Rossi
Valentino Rossi said he had no qualms over the decision to stop the Malaysian MotoGP with seven laps still to run due to heavy rain.

Ducati star Rossi, who finished fifth behind team-mate Nicky Hayden, had been battling Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso for the final place on the podium when an issue with his visor caused him to lose ground.

And although Rossi would have preferred the race to be run over the original scheduled distance, the Italian backed the decision to cancel as the 'correct' choice.

“Of course I would've liked to finish the full race, but there was really too much water,” he said.

“I think the decision to stop was correct because in these conditions, the bikes can aquaplane and you can go down in any corner.

“Our race wasn't bad because I got a great start despite being so far back, on the fourth row, and then I managed to be pretty fast,” he added.

“I was riding with [Andrea] Dovizioso and [Casey] Stoner, when unfortunately I started having some problems with my visor fogging and in those extreme conditions, with low light and a lot of water, it was very difficult.”

Rossi feels he had enough pace to finish fourth but a mistake at the same corner where Andrea Dovizioso, Ben Spies and Stefan Bradl all came to grief ended his hopes.

“I made a mistake in turn seven, and I was lucky not to crash because it was the same point where Dovizioso, [Ben] Spies and then [Stefan] Bradl went down,” he said.

“Without that mistake, I could have finished fourth because honestly, Stoner was a bit faster than I was, especially in T2.

“In general though, it didn't go bad.”

@ GoDani.... You baffoon, over the last half a dozen rain drenched motogp races in recent times there has been a fist ful of riders mention the exact same thing regarding visor problems yet simply because it's Rossi this time who mentioned it, it has to be an excuse! Get a life and grow up ffs!
