James Ellison celebrated his best result of the season as the British rider finished ninth in Sunday's Malaysian MotoGP at Sepang.
Ellison, who qualified 16th on the PBMUK Aprilia ART, had been battling for the lead of the CRT class with Aleix Espargaro in the treacherous conditions when the race was stopped with seven laps still to run.
Although denied the opportunity to finish as top CRT rider for Paul Bird's rookie MotoGP team, the 31-year-old was thrilled with the result and is now looking forward to competing at his 'favourite' circuit a Phillip Island in the penultimate round of the championship.
“I really enjoyed the race although we didn't have the front suspension just right but I managed to get around it by adapting my braking technique to compensate,” he said.
“I got into a good rhythm and passed quite a few riders while chasing down Aleix.
“I closed him down towards the end but the race was rightfully stopped so we bagged a ninth place,” added Ellison.
“I'm so happy for all members of the PBMUK team and already looking forward to my favourite track Phillip Island.”
