Stoner hails 'fairytale' victory

Stoner, who will make now his final grand prix appearance in the Valencia season finale on November 9-11, also offered his congratulations to Lorenzo and condolences to Pedrosa.

"My biggest congratulations to Jorge, he's ridden an almost perfect season finishing 1st or 2nd when possible and I'm just disappointed not to be in the championship fight, but I made my own mistakes and this is how things go," he said.

"My condolences to Dani - I saw him crash out in front of me - but he had to push today and go out and win the race to keep his championship hopes alive. It was a small mistake, easy to do in that corner and I feel very sorry for him."

Now certain to finish third in the standings, Stoner has won five races this year and a sixth would put him equal for the season with Lorenzo and Pedrosa.

First of all, wow to that picture!!!! We will miss you Casey and hope you miss Motogp and come back may be 2014 (with BMW maybe). The result was expected and on his day CS is unbeatable whether its PI or any other circuit. Sad to see Dani fall and finish runner up yet again - poor guy has luck all against him. COming back to CS, the series will be much poorer without him. He brough to table that raw savage style of riding which nobody else can do right now. All of them - Rossi, JLo, Pedrosa are rythm riders - not Casey. Will be much missed. And btw Casey, your baby-girl is sweet and worth leaving everything for.

Another master class by Casey, not a great race after Dani went out but still a joy to watch, I'll never forget PI 2009 with Rossi on his a..s the entire race on the best bike on the grid at that time and Casey wringing that bucking, sliding POS Ducati laying blackies out of every corner but Vali unable to show him a wheel, wonderfull memories and he WILL be sorely missed next year no matter what the haters say.
