Seventh place best Rossi could hope for in Australia

'I'm not able to enter the corners fast because whenever I try, I go too wide. As far as the result is concerned, I think seventh place is probably the best that was possible' - Valentino Rossi
Ducati's Valentino Rossi described his seventh place finish in the Australian MotoGP as 'probably the best that was possible'.

Rossi crashed unhurt during morning warm-up and although he had made some small changes to his Desmosedici, the Italian wasn't expecting any dramatic progress on his number one bike at Phillip Island.

He finished just over a second ahead of his team-mate, Nicky Hayden after the pair battled throughout the race until the American ace made an error in the closing stages, running wide at Turn 11.

“As far as the result is concerned, I think seventh place is probably the best that was possible, whereas the gap could have been better,” Rossi said.

“Nicky was with me the whole race. I was ahead and I pushed, but I was never able to shake him.

“The bike I crashed with in the warm-up had some small changes that we wanted to try, but honestly, I don't think I could have done much more.”

Rossi continued to struggle in the corners and was forced to brake earlier to counteract running wide.

“I'm not able to enter the corners fast because whenever I try, I go too wide,” he explained.

“I have to brake earlier, try to keep a bit of margin, and then accelerate as soon as possible, but by opening the gas very early, with the bike leaned over, the tyre heats up a lot on the edges.

“Today it immediately started sliding too much,” added Rossi, who extended his congratulations to newly crowned Moto2 and MotoGP World Champions, Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo.

“Compliments to Marquez and Lorenzo for their titles, which both of them certainly deserve,” he said.

Lol you lot are more entertaining than racing.. If any of you don't think Rossi will be competitive next year then you are deluded!! He will be a podium contender with Lorenzo ,Pedrosa and Marquez all of next year. I don't think he will ever win title again but he will be competitive. I want four of them battling like hell next season oh and I want a picture of Dovis face when he finishes Valencia test # Should have been Redding
