Aoyama to make MotoGP comeback at Valencia

5 November 2012

Hiroshi Aoyama is to make his MotoGP comeback in this weekend's Valencia season finale.

The former 250cc world champion was a full time MotoGP racer on satellite Honda equipment during 2010 (Interwetten) and 2011 (Gresini), claiming a best finish of fourth.

The Japanese then made an unsuccessful switch to the World Superbikes for 2012, where he managed just 18th in the standings alongside race-winning team-mate Jonathan Rea at Ten Kate Honda.

Aoyama has now been called up by Avintia Blusens to race its CRT specification FTR-Kawasaki in place of the injured Yonny Hernandez at Valencia.

It is rumoured that Aoyama is also under consideration for a full time ride with the Avintia team for 2013, when ex-Pramac Ducati rider Hector Barbera is also tipped to join.

Aoyama will be the second stand-in rider at Valencia, with Yamaha test rider Katsuyuki Nakasuga substituting for the injured Ben Spies.

Rea also raced in MotoGP this year, replacing Casey Stoner for two races at Repsol Honda.
