Smith forced to wait for MotoGP debut

Bradley Smith hopes the weather will improve - or worsen - to enable him to get some MotoGP laps on the Tech 3 Yamaha on Wednesday.
Bradley Smith says he is hugely disappointed at being unable to complete even a single lap on a MotoGP bike for the first time as difficult weather conditions at Valencia kept him in the pit garage.

One of three Moto2 riders to step up to the premier class in 2013, alongside Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) and Andrea Iannone (Pramac Ducati), Smith says he has been looking forward to his Tech 3 Yamaha debut for several months.

However, he wouldn't get the chance to sample the machine as planned, the indifferent weather prompting the team to keep both Smith and Cal Crutchlow inside the pit lane.

Nonetheless, Smith is now hoping drier, or even wetter, conditions on Wednesday will give him the chance to get out on track for at least a handful of revolutions.

“To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I've been looking forward to today for months, so to not even get out on track for one lap is a bit frustrating, but there is nothing I can do about it. When I got in my leathers yesterday and sat on the bike for the first time, it really hit home what a big day in my career this was.

“It is a shame that I'm still waiting to try the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1 for the first time but my chance will come. For most of the day the conditions were the worst possible. I was only going to get let out if the track was really soaking so I could get a feel for the bike.

“It looks the weather is going to be even worse tomorrow but at least I'll get out for a few laps and that will be a bonus."
