Moto2: Cortese tests Kalex for first time
22 November 2012
Sandro Cortese has declared himself 'right on track' after completing his first test on a Moto2 machine at Almeria in Spain this week.
The inaugural Moto3 world champion got to grips with the Kalex he will ride in 2013 for the newly formed Dynavolt Intact GP team at the Spanish circuit and was immediately impressed.
The young German prospect told SpeedWeek
magazine: “The first day went really well. I felt better after every lap, with each turn.
“It was primarily about getting to know this 600cc motorcycle.
“My confidence got better from lap to lap. It is really fun to work with this bike, even in comparison to Moto3,” added Cortese.
“You need more power while riding, especially when the changing direction. As of last week I have already upped my strength training.
“The machine is however more stable under braking than the Moto3 bike.”
Cortese, who completed 45 laps at Almeria, will focus on improving his riding style as he adapts to the different characteristics of his new machine.
“In Moto3 I was already riding in a different style to my opponents.
“I brought the machine more upright on corner exit earlier in order to then accelerate better.
"Sure, for the Moto2 class, I will improve my riding style even further,” he said.
“But generally I'm on the right track. My first day was really successful in Moto2.”
