Birthday surgery for Stefan Bradl

30 November 2012

MotoGP rookie of the year Stefan Bradl spent his 23rd birthday undergoing 'arm pump' surgery in Barcelona on Thursday.

The German, who recently extended his contract with HRC until 2014, found that the extra acceleration and braking forces of a MotoGP bike were causing problems with his right forearm.

"After the arm pump problem I suffered in Japan this year at the Motegi GP I had my first medical check with Dr Mir two weeks ago and together with the team we decided to make this surgery quickly," said Bradl.

"The operation turned out really well and Dr. Mir told me my arm was better than he thought, so I am really pleased we took the decision and operated.

"It's weird to celebrate my birthday at the hospital but some of my technicians came to visit me and the medical staff have been very nice."

Former Moto2 champion Bradl finished eighth overall for LCR in the 2012 MotoGP standings, claiming a best race finish of fourth.

He will be back on track alongside his MotoGP rivals in the opening official test of 2013 at Sepang in early February.
