Moto3: Granado makes Aspar debut

"I like the Kalex Moto3 chassis a lot. It is a very agile bike and in some ways reminds me of the 125" - Eric Granado.
New Aspar signing Eric Granado completed his first Moto3 laps during a test session at Almeria in Spain.

The Brazilian, who joined Moto2 with JiR from Silverstone onwards - once he had reached the age of 16 years - but did not score a point, set a best lap just over 3.5s from race-winning team-mate Jonas Folger.

"I had never ridden a Moto3, and in Moto2 I was using a very different frame,” said Granado. “I like the Kalex Moto3 chassis a lot. It is a very agile bike and in some ways reminds me of the 125. It allows me to get into corners with a lot of confidence.

“Although everything is new to me I think we did a good job. We tried something new at each pit stop. Basically we have worked with the geometry of the bike to find a comfortable riding position. Two laps before the end of the day I had a small fell at turn nine.”

Folger also fell, albeit early in the day and whilst still learning the track layout.

"This Almeria circuit is quite complicated, so much so that in the second lap I went off track,” said Folger, who joined the Aspar team midway through the 2012 season. “The circuit is completely different to any in the world championship, but that is good because we have experienced a new situation.

“Today we tried countless settings and at no time sought a quick lap, instead laying the foundations for the coming days. We played with the height of the bike, and were able to work through many things that cannot be tested during a grand prix weekend."

Anthony West, Brad Binder and Danny Webb were among the other riders reportedly on track.

He finished 5th in the Spanish championship in 2011. As a comparison, Romano Fenati finished 7th in the same year and the top three were the Repsol guys, so he should be ok once he finds his speed again in the smaller class.

I was looking more carefully at the results and Granado was the only one to score points in all the races. I couldn't tell who participated in the races or who crashed out/had a mechanical failure. In his first year of roadracing, in Brazil, my kids used to beat him. It was my daughter's second year and my youngest son's first racing 125cc four stroke hondas in the National championship. Hope he does well.
