Once in a lifetime track day line-up

“I mentally pinched myself as I followed out Randy Mamola, Michael Schumacher and a true gladiator in John McGuinness. That Espargaro kid is a bit of a handful too isn't he?” – Keith Flint.
Paul Ricard in the South of France saw Monster Energy and the Mercedes Formula One Team bring together F1 legend Michael Schumacher and an all-star line-up of two wheel talent for a special track day.

Newly retired seven time F1 champion Schumacher was joined by Isle of Man TT star John McGuinness; 500cc legend Randy Mamola, Moto2 title contender Pol Espargaro and Prodigy singer Keith Flint.

“Riding with Michael was so good. What he's achieved on four wheels makes him the Godfather of motorsport,” said McGuinness, who had not met the German before.

“I wasn't expecting him to be anything less, but he's fast! You can see his enthusiasm for motorcycles and it was a massive pleasure to spend the day with him.”

Schumacher, who raced motorcycles during his F1 sabbatical, was equally complimentary of his on-track company.

“Coming here today I felt so proud to be able to turn my hand at riding a bike with guys I really admire. I can't begin to explain how much fun it was to ride the track with the likes of John, Randy, Keith and watching Pol Espargaro's huge talent.”

For once it was rockstar Flint - no stranger to bikes and an active member of racing paddocks - looking on wide-eyed at the all-star cast in front of him.

“Today I was truly able to use the word 'legend' to describe the company I was keeping; both from four and two wheels,” he said.

“As I pulled out of the pit lane I mentally pinched myself as I followed out Randy Mamola, Michael Schumacher and a true gladiator in John McGuinness. That Espargaro kid is a bit of a handful too isn't he?”

I never liked Schumacher in his first career but I became a small fan in his second career. I think it's brilliant that he's complimenting the likes of John McGuinness who isn't a global superstar like Schumacher and realizing Espargaros talent. I admire Schumacher now for reasons such as this.
