Jorge Lorenzo and Mick Doohan got as far as the semi-final stage for their respective teams in the Race Of Champions Nations Cup on Saturday in Bangkok.
Reigning double MotoGP
champion Lorenzo drove alongside Le Mans ace Tom Kristensen for the 'All Stars' Team and - having progressed through the group stage – the pair lost out to Team France (F1's Romain Grosjean and WRC's Sébastien Ogier) by 2-0 in the best of three semi-final.
"Earlier in the evening... Lorenzo memorably proved his two-wheeled skill extends to four wheels by defeating touring car great Andy Priaulx in one of the heats," read Saturday's official ROC report.
Team Australia reached the semi-final with three victories: two for V8 Supercar ace Jamie Whincup and one for former five time 500cc champion Doohan. The Australians were then beaten 2-0 by Team Germany's daunting line-up of F1 stars Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher.
Germany went on to beat France in the final and claim their sixth consecutive ROC Nations title.
Saturday's contest saw a variety of cars in use - including the Audi R8 LMS, VW Scirocco, Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo and the Toyota GT86 - on a purpose-built parallel track at the Rajamangala Stadium.
A Tweet from Yamaha said that Lorenzo "accidentally pushed the fire extinguisher button" while driving the Audi. "That's a lesson learned for tomorrow!"
Drivers will now do individual battle in Sunday's main Race Of Champions event.
