MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo is classified second in your 2012 Rider of the Year poll - despite the Spaniard's average score of 8.57 beating the 8.3 rating with which he won the 2010 vote, after claiming his first premier-class crown.

No other Yamaha rider got close to matching Lorenzo's performances this season - the #99 finishing as the top M1 rider in 16 of the 18 races.

Whenever he reached the chequered flag Lorenzo was no lower than second, winning six times, although he spent much of the second half of the season soaking up mounting pressure from Honda rival Dani Pedrosa.

Of Lorenzo's two non-scores, one was due to a mistake from Alvaro Bautista at Assen, with Lorenzo's only race error occurring in the Valencia finale, after he had secured the title.
