How 2013 Factory Yamaha team-mates Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi compare in the premier-class
Rossi and Lorenzo: The MotoGP stats so far
Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi, MotoGP team-mates from 2008-2010, will again join forces at the Factory Yamaha team for the next two seasons, following Rossi's return from Ducati.

Lorenzo stepped straight into Yamaha's official squad for his debut 2008 MotoGP season, which was Rossi's ninth in the premier-class.

Rossi won his sixth and seventh MotoGP titles in 2008 and 2009, but Lorenzo improved with each season and was victorious in 2010, the year Rossi broke his leg at Mugello.

Here is a summary of their performances during those three years together.

Rossi and Lorenzo: 2008-2010:
Wins: Rossi 17 - Lorenzo 14
Podiums: Rossi 39 - Lorenzo 34
Poles: Lorenzo 16 - Rossi 10
Fastest Laps: Rossi 13 - Lorenzo 9
Championship Wins: Rossi 2 - Lorenzo 1

While Rossi went on to struggle at Ducati, Lorenzo continued to battle for the world title in both 2011 and 2012, claiming his second MotoGP crown last year.

Rossi and Lorenzo: 2011-2012:
Wins: Lorenzo 9 - Rossi 0
Podiums: Lorenzo 26 - Rossi 3
Poles: Lorenzo 9 - Rossi 0
Fastest Laps: Lorenzo 7 - Rossi 2
Championship Wins: Lorenzo 1 – Rossi 0

Despite the past two seasons, in terms of all-time stats it is Rossi (33) - the record holder for premier-class wins - who remains comfortably clear of the younger Lorenzo (25).

Rossi and Lorenzo: MotoGP - All Time:
Wins: Rossi 79 - Lorenzo 23
Podiums: Rossi 141 - Lorenzo 60
Poles: Rossi 49 - Lorenzo 25
Fastest Laps: Rossi 67 - Lorenzo 16
Championship Wins: Rossi 7 - Lorenzo 2

However divide those figures by the number of seasons they have each spent in the premier-class (13 for Rossi, 5 for Lorenzo) and the averages are as follows.

Rossi and Lorenzo: MotoGP - Career Averages:
Wins per season: Rossi 6.1 - Lorenzo 4.6
Podiums per season: Lorenzo 12 - Rossi 10.8
Poles per season: Lorenzo 5 - Rossi 3.8
Fastest Laps per season Rossi 5.2 - Lorenzo 3.2
Championship Wins/Seasons: Rossi 0.5 - Lorenzo 0.4

Both Rossi and Lorenzo have missed some premier-class races due to injuries and competed while far from fully fit in others.

This really isn't news, Rossi's achievements are in the past and Lorenzo is at the height of his powers. The only question is whether Rossi's experiences at Ducati have destroyed his confidence so much that he can't mount a serious challenge to Lorenzo. As it stands, Lorenzo will start favourite every race.

These stats doesn't matter much... They r both great racers.. One is very smooth.. And the otherone is a great race crafter., i wish to see them fighting for the championship in 2013... Along with Dani... A three way battle just like it was this year... And a little bit more exciting races... People think that f1 is more entertaining... ??? Where hardly anyone overtakes while on the track., most overtakes r done when one has stopped in pit :D.. Can't wait for febs official test... And remember guys this is a rossi lorenzo thread...
