Laverty forced to wait for debut on PBM machine

Michael Laverty to ride Yonny Hernandez's spare ART in first MotoGP pre-season test at Sepang, debut on in-house PBM machine pushed back until end of February
Michael Laverty will make his MotoGP debut on team-mate Yonny Hernandez's spare ART Aprilia at the first Sepang test in early February, rather than the new PBM bike.

Laverty is now expected to debut the PBM machine, which he will campaign in the CRT class this season, at the second pre-season test in Malaysia.

The PBM bike features a conventional aluminium twin spar chassis design, with adjustable head pipe and swingarm pivot positions, which has been built by GPMS.

It will be powered by the Aprilia engine used in the full ART machines, but run the new Magneti Marelli control ECU.

The machine was on course to make its debut in the first Sepang test on February 5, although MotoGP.com reports that the team has delayed its introduction until the second test on February 26 to ensure the bike is prepared to the highest possible standard.

Rather than waiting until then, Laverty will participate in the opening test on Hernandez's second ART to gain experience of the Bridgestone tyres and carbon brakes as he prepares for his first taste of MotoGP action in 2013.

In a way this isn't all bad new for Laverty because at least it gives him a chance to ride a developed motorcycle while he's learning what the Bridgestones etc can do. At least this way if he's having problems on the new bike later the team will be able to see how much of it is down to the bike or the rider.
