Moto2: West named at QMMF

QMMF keeps Anthony West for Moto2 2013.

The QMMF Racing Team has officially confirmed that Anthony West will remain with the team for the 2013 Moto2 World Championship.

West's name, alongside new signing Rafid Topan Sucipto, had been present on the post-season provisional entry list, but has now been made official by QMMF president Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya. Both riders are listed as using the Speed Up chassis.

The new West deal was announced at this weekend's second round of the Qatar International Road Racing Championship, where West won both races - ahead of Bradley Smith and then Nasser Al Malki - on a Suzuki GSXR-1000.

A year ago it looked as though 'Westy's' professional racing career was over. After failing to find funding for the Speed Master CRT MotoGP seat he announced that he might 'go home and look for a day job'.

The former Kawasaki MotoGP racer then found himself with a potential ride in BSB for Supersonic BMW, but dumped that chance for Moto2 on a QMMF-run Moriwaki.

After a string of poor results - bar a strong seventh place at the rain-soaked Le Mans - the team put West on a Speed-Up chassis.

West's results improved dramatically towards the end of the season, with second place finishes on the bounce at Malaysia (wet) and Australia (dry).

But the likeable Aussie was then banned from the Valencia finale for failing an anti-doping test, having unwittingly fallen foul of a 'prohibited stimulant'.

The doping test had been carried out at Le Mans, meaning Moriwaki's only top 10 finish of 2012 was stripped from being an official result.
