These are the first pictures of the Ducati Desmosedici GP13, to be raced in this year's MotoGP
The bike was unveiled by Nicky Hayden
and new factory signing Andrea Dovizioso
on Tuesday evening at the annual Ducati/Ferrari Wrooom Press Ski Meeting in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy.
In reality, only the race livery - featuring more red on the upper fairing than last year and without the green stripes - is finalised.
The exact specification of the 2013 machine won't be known until after pre-season testing, although Ducati have indicated it is very much a case of evolution rather than revolution.
Nevertheless, being the first machine of the factory's post-Valentino Rossi era - and first since Audi took ownership of the brand - the Desmosedici GP13 will aim to draw a line under the bitter disappointments of the last two seasons and make a fresh start.
While Hayden and Dovizioso (whose bike has the #04 rather than #4) will spearhead Ducati's 2013 hopes at the official team, fellow grand prix winner Spies is also arriving from Yamaha to join Italian rookie Andrea Iannone at the satellite Pramac squad.
Spies and Iannone are also present at Wrooom, with their race machines unveiled (also in red and white) alongside the factory bikes for the first time - a visual statement to back up Ducati's intention of factory support for all four riders.
The unsuccessful quest to unlock Rossi's talents saw Ducati switch from its unique carbon fibre 'stressed' chassis at the start of 2009, to a more traditional aluminium twin-spar frame - as used by its Japanese MotoGP
rivals - for the first year of the 1000cc rules.
But it didn't provide the breakthrough needed: Seven time MotoGP
champion Rossi took two podiums on his way to sixth in the world championship, having announced a return to Yamaha during the summer break.
Hayden, who missed two races through injury, was ninth and without a podium for the first time in his grand prix career.
Much therefore rests on the 2013 Ducati, not least the engineering pride of the Bologna-based factory.
Ducati won races with Loris Capirossi
(6) and Troy Bayliss (1) in the 990cc era, then enjoyed a further 24 victories - all but one with Stoner - and a world title under 800cc regulations from 2007-2010.
A post-season shake-up at Ducati following Rossi's two-year woe has seen Filippo Preziosi replaced as general manager of Ducati Corse by Bernhard Gobmeier, former Superbike director at BMW.
