Defending double
MotoGP world champion
Jorge Lorenzo believes he is one of four pre-season favourites for the 2013 crown.
Italy's
La Gazzetta dello Sport quotes the Spaniard as saying: "I'm the man to beat because I won the last championship, but Pedrosa won a lot last season, including the finale, so he has to be a favourite and then there's Marquez.
“Valentino is also a contender and cannot have forgotten how to win. The four of us are the favourites, but there can always be surprises and so I don't like to make predictions.”
On being re-joined by seven time
MotoGP champion Rossi in Yamaha's factory team, Lorenzo said: “I have great respect for all the
MotoGP riders… Valentino has won a lot, has achieved great success, is 'complete' as a rider and has no weaknesses except perhaps age.
“My weak point is the starts and also in the wet I have to improve, but we [Rossi and I] will both have the same opportunities this year and the same Yamaha."
Lorenzo will be starting his sixth
MotoGP season in 2013, all with Yamaha.
Lorenzo and Rossi will head to Indonesia for Yamaha PR events before starting 2013 testing alongside their rivals at Sepang on February 5.
