Marquez: I stopped the bike with my elbow
MotoGP star rookie Marc Marquez suffered a 'strange' fall on his way to third place during a rain-interrupted start to the second Sepang test.

The new Repsol Honda rider, who had been fourth fastest at the opening test earlier this month, returned with the goal of trying further set-up options for his factory RC213V.

However slippery conditions made comparisons difficult and the 20-year-old suffered a low speed fall on his way to third place, 0.362s from team-mate and pace setter Dani Pedrosa, before the arrival of afternoon rain.

"It's a shame that the track was so slippery, because we weren't able to collect all the data that we wanted due to the times not being so fast," said Marquez, who rode for 23 laps.

"We were not able to ride a lot in the afternoon either, because as soon as we got on the pace it started to rain and we aborted the session.

"I just tried some different set-ups and gave my comments, but we need to try again when the grip is better."

Of his brief but "strange" accident, on the exit of Turn Nine, Marquez added: "I tried to push a little bit more and it was like what I did in Moto2, with the elbow down, but with MotoGP I cannot keep going!

"I stopped the bike with my elbow, picked it up and got going again. I lost ten seconds."

Despite the incident, Marquez was again at the sharp end of the field, behind only Pedrosa and Yamaha's reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo.

"For me to be 0.3s from Dani is better than I expect," said Marquez. "But I know Dani, Jorge and Valentino are stronger than me and very consistent. At the moment it is not our battle.

"The goal at this test is just to try some different things, to understand my riding style more, because this is the only opportunity to compare things over two tests at the same circuit.

"At the [private] Austin test and then Jerez everything will be new and we will only ride once at each circuit. If it rains again this week then I think I will do some laps in the wet for the first time."
