Crutchlow sixth fastest on day one

'It was obvious that we'd got used to the grip that we had at the last test but it wasn't there and when people started to push they crashed' - Cal Crutchlow
Cal Crutchlow refused to stick his neck out in search for a super-fast time as the second MotoGP test got underway on a slippery track at Sepang in Malaysia.

Heavy rain leading up to the opening day of the test left the circuit lacking adhesion and Crutchlow stayed within his limits as he set the sixth fastest time overall, with a 2m 02.272s lap putting him within 0.3s of the leading trio of Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez.

Crutchlow set his best time on only his fifth lap in the morning to occupy second place on the time sheets and failed to improve in the afternoon before rain curtailed proceedings on day one in Malaysia, slipping to sixth in the overall order.

“I'm happy enough with today because all you could do was ride around to the grip that was available,” he said.

“This morning the track condition wasn't good at all. It was greasy and the heat was just making it worse and you can see the lap times are a fair way off what we were doing here only recently.

“I was 1.5s off my best time from the first test and [Dani] Pedrosa was about the same,” added the British rider.

“Once I got to my best lap time today I pretty much stayed at that pace for the rest of the day because the grip wasn't there.

“There were a few crashes and it was obvious that we'd got used to the grip that we had at the last test but it wasn't there and when people started to push they crashed.”

Cal, if you show real promise early part of this year I hope Yamaha back you with some nice new parts, would be nice to see you up there with Jorge & Val competing for podiums and wins.
