Smith striving to find boundary on M1
MotoGP rookie Bradley Smith walked away unhurt from a front-end spill at Sepang as the British rider strives to find his limit on the Tech 3 Yamaha M1.

Smith quickly broke into the top ten in the morning session at the second pre-season test in Malaysia and had set his fastest lap in 2m 03.632s when the incident occurred at the third-gear Turn 7 on his 25th lap.

He had hoped to return to action in the afternoon but heavy rain, which had left the circuit in an already greasy condition in the days preceding the test, resulted in the session being halted with three hours remaining.

“This morning was another good learning process for me because the track condition was completely different to the first test,” said Smith.

“It was dirty and slippery and it meant that I had to ride smoothly, which is how I need to be riding this bike all of the time.

“I've been a little too aggressive but in those conditions I had to ride the bike in a completely different way,” he added.

“The crash was another part of the learning process too.”

Smith feels he now has a much better understanding of the limits of hisYZR-M1 following his spill in the morning and has vowed to put the experience to good use.

“I'd had a couple of warnings in the previous two laps but I kind of shrugged them off because I'm not sure what the limit is,” he said.

“Now I know the limit although a crash is never ideal.

“I'd done all my laps on the same set of tyres and now I know what the warning signs are I'll be better prepared in the future.”
