Dani Pedrosa was toppled from the Sepang timesheets for the first time in 2013 testing on Wednesday, when he lost out to world champion Jorge Lorenzo by 0.369s.
Repsol Honda star Pedrosa spent the fifth of the six days in Malaysia working with engine mapping and experimenting with forks and shocks.
“I'm satisfied. A lot of laps today, including testing items with Ohlins, front forks and shocks,” said Pedrosa, who completed 55 laps.
“It was also very hot. But it was quite an interesting test. Not everything was positive but we got some information. When you spend so many days at the same track it's good to compare some changes.
“I'm getting more familiar and learning more about this bike. It's not a big change, but some things are different... I'm feeling more confident than at this point last year.”
In terms of further gains, Pedrosa hopes to “improve on the entry of the corner”.
Pedrosa's 2m 0.1s lap set on the final day of the first test remains the best of the year so far.
Rookie team-mate Marc Marquez was fourth fastest.
