Marquez building confidence, 'a little more aggressive'
27 February 2013
MotoGP rookie Marc Marquez continued ploughing through an extensive list of set-up options for his factory Honda, during 64 laps of the Sepang circuit on Wednesday.
The Moto2 champion was again among the frontrunners - setting the fourth fastest lap time, 0.710s behind leader Jorge Lorenzo - although his main task was to understand how set-up changes to the RC213V work with his riding style.
“Today was quite good. It was hard day because we tried many things on the set-up, just to know which way to follow,” said Marquez.
“We knew before we went out that some things would be negative, but we need to know how things work with my riding style.
“From that we got a lot of information and tomorrow we will continue in this way. It is important to try as much as we can now as it's not always possible on a race weekend.”
Marquez added that his confidence is improving with each day on track.
“I feel better on the bike. I can be a little more aggressive, but still I'll need many laps before I can ride with the same confidence as in Moto2.
“The team are trying to help me, with the set-up. We have quite a good base but we can improve.”
And is the bike fun to ride?
“It's fun because it's always moving. Sometimes you get tired when it's moving a lot and you don't have the correct set-up, but it's quite nice. You always need to concentrate a lot when you ride this bike.”
On the question of how much he relies on the electronics, Marquez replied: “If I'm honest I don't know which level of electronics I have, but they say I am quite similar to Casey...”
