Dani Pedrosa kept his Repsol Honda team-mate and series newcomer Marc Marquez at bay to return to the top of the pile at Sepang on the final day of the second pre-season test in Malaysia.
Wet conditions in the morning finally cleared in the afternoon, when Pedrosa fired in his quickest lap in 2m 00.562s on the 41st of his 57 completed laps to claim the number one position by a mere 0.081s from young gun Marquez.
It was a case of normal service resuming for Pedrosa, who has topped the times on five of the six days of testing in total at Sepang in February, with current champion Jorge Lorenzo temporarily bucking the trend as he deposed his title arch-rival by securing the fastest lap on Wednesday.
Pedrosa continued to focus on suspension set-up and also made the most of the damp conditions in the morning to gain some wet weather feedback.
“This morning we were able to try out the wet weather set-up; it was only for a short time, but nevertheless we were able to put in some laps with it,” he said.
“In the afternoon, with the track dry and with slicks, we continued working on suspension settings.
“Overall, it's been a positive three days. Now we're off to Austin, and this is going to be an interesting test for the team and for myself,” Pedrosa added.
“We've never ridden there and it's a new track.”
