Jorge Lorenzo was unable to match his blistering lap set on the second day of the Sepang
MotoGP test as concluded the official shakedown in third position.
Factory Yamaha star Lorenzo, whose lap of 2m 0.282s on Wednesday was the quickest time overall at the second pre-season test in Malaysia, finished behind Repsol Honda pair
Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez.
The current world champion led the way in the wet morning session, but although the circuit dried out in the afternoon, reduced adhesion prevented Lorenzo from replicating his pace from Wednesday on the YZR-M1.
Lorenzo said: "The practice was wet at the beginning of the day so we exited and tried the bike on the wet. It wasn't bad, I made the fastest wet time but when the track became drier it was never the same as yesterday. It was much more slippery and so harder to equal yesterday's time."
As at the first Sepang test, Lorenzo completed a race simulation on the final day, but this time the results were not as good as he had hoped.
"We made a complete race simulation, it was a little worse than I expected because we had some problems with the front tyre under braking; it started 'closing' from the beginning and I had to slow down a little bit.
"The set-up, with the full tank, I guess was not perfect for these difficult track conditions. But anyway I was the only one at the front to try a race simulation in these hard conditions.
"It is always good to try and see what happens. If you don't try you don't learn.
"The conclusion after these three days is that we are faster than last year, but for me it is still not enough to be completely satisfied."
Title rival Pedrosa's benchmark lap from the first test at Sepang earlier in February of 2m 0.100s stands as the quickest time overall from the two pre-season shakedowns.
"The speed of this track changes a lot," sad Lorenzo. "Yesterday I did a 2m 0.2s in the heat of the middle of the day. If it didn't rain last night and we could push at 10am this morning, I'm sure we could have done a 1m 59s."
