Moto2: Final chance to fine-tune for Redding, Kallio
16 March 2013
Marc VDS Racing duo Scott Redding and Mika Kallio are optimistic two days of testing at Jerez is all they need now to hone their set-ups ahead of the opening round of the 2013 Moto2 World Championship at Losail, Qatar.
Heading into the 2013 season as two of the pre-season title favourites, Redding and Kallio have already spent several days getting the Kalex chassis up to speed, with the British rider proving particularly competitive in both the dry and wet.
Even so, while he feels the two day test at Jerez represents a good chance for him to 'refine' his riding style, Redding says he will be looking for improvements nonetheless.
"We've been building up over the last two tests, trying a lot of different things on the bike and finding a good direction with the set up. At this final test in Jerez we won't change so much on the bike, leaving me to work on refining my riding style to get the most from the bike.
“If the feeling is good then I'll be pushing for lap times at the end of each day, but we'll have to see how it goes. I head to Jerez with some confidence after my times in the wet and the dry there last time out, but there's always room for improvement and that's exactly what we'll be looking for next week."
Kallio, meanwhile, is hoping a recent confidence-building test at Albacete will put him on track for a strong showing at Jerez.
"Although the weather conditions weren't ideal at Albacete, where the track temperature was cold and the grip limited, we did find a few things with the bike. We made some improvements with the distribution of the extra weight we have for this year and also to the front end set up on the bike.
“We will need to confirm the changes at Jerez, where I hope the conditions will be better. Now I just need more time on the bike, without making any big changes, to build confidence. As my confidence increases the lap times will come, we know this from previous seasons."
The opening round of the Moto2 World Championship takes place on 7th April in Qatar.
