Repsol Moto3 duo Alex Rins and Alex Marquez put themselves in the thick of the action for the Estrella Galicia team as the pair wrapped up pre-season testing in style at Jerez, finishing third and fourth respectively overall.
Rins was just 0.236s behind Luis Salom, who climbed to the top of the leaderboard on the fourth and final day of the test in Spain after Maverick Vinales was sidelined with a finger injury sustained in a crash on Wednesday.
Marquez, younger brother of MotoGP star Marc, also proved he will be a podium threat this season as the Spanish starlet claimed the fourth best time of the test, 0.6s down on Salom.
Rins, who fastest time was 1m 46.610s on the Kalex, said: “I leave Jerez very happy. We were able to improve our times and gained a lot of pace, whether with new tyres or with used ones.
“Salom pushed hard on the final lap and got the fastest time, but we are pleased with our work ahead of the opening race.
“We perhaps lacked a race simulation to see how the bike responds without grip, but in general I feel that we are ready and I am motivated for the Qatar GP to come around.”
Teenager Marquez bounced back after a minor fall at Turn 11 on the final morning to lap in 1m 46.986s and later set his sights on a rostrum finish in his full debut season in the class.
“When we started the preseason, we had a bike that was new to us,” he said.
“Little by little we have adapted to it and made steps forward. In the previous test we didn't go well, but we came to this test motivated to do a good job and we advanced every day.
“This finally day was good for us, I have a good feeling with the bike and I think that we are ready for Qatar,” added Marquez.
“This season we need to work at our maximum and try to get to the front whenever possible.
“I don't have any pressure, but I'd like to get a podium this year. Why not?”
