Lorenzo pleased to see all-Yamaha top three

24 March 2013

Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo finished in the middle of an all-Yamaha top three during day two of the final pre-season test at Jerez.

Lorenzo, quickest in the wet on Saturday, lapped just 0.015s slower than factory team-mate Valentino Rossi during the first dry laps of the test, with Tech 3 Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow just 0.049s from the top in third.

“In general it was a very positive test. We worked on suspension and electronics today and we saw that compared to Austin the Yamahas were much more competitive,” said Lorenzo. “There are three Yamahas in the top three and that is good for the motivation of the brand.”

The Spanish ace added that more set-up work was needed to suit the low grip conditions.

“The track was dry but not in perfect conditions today, there was not so much grip and we had some problems in some corners, where the bike was not very stable,” he explained. “I think we have to focus on getting more stability on acceleration and get more comfortable with the race pace.”

Lorenzo's 2012 title rival Dani Pedrosa was the top Honda, in fourth but just 0.1s behind Rossi.
