Marquez: Tests exceeded my expectations
26 March 2013
Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez is looking forward to a period of relaxation after wrapping up pre-season testing at Jerez and declaring: It's been much better than I expected.
The MotoGP rookie managed the fifth fastest time on Monday after conditions improved at the end of the day, leaving a dry track surface for an hour-and a-half.
He improved his time from Sunday by six tenths to set a time of 1m 40.130s – 0.619s adrift of pacesetter Cal Crutchlow on the Tech 3 Yamaha M1.
Marquez, who spent more time working on the electronics system on his factory RC213V, said: “It was dry and sunny this morning then at around 10.30 it began to rain quite heavily.
“We put in a some laps to understand a few things in these conditions as we had some problems in the wet on the first day, so this was helpful as we found some answers.
“Everybody was waiting for the track to dry out and although it was a little cold, the last hour was good,” added the reigning Moto2 world champion, who is now planning a period of relaxation prior to his MotoGP race debut in Qatar on April 7.
“It was useful to test some things and I feel much better than yesterday, we made some improvements, especially in our consistency and with electronics.
“Now I will try to relax and prepare myself for Qatar, this has been a positive winter testing - much better than I expected.”
Marquez, who dominated the private Honda/Yamaha test at Austin before arriving at Jerez, was sixth fastest overall during the three days at Jerez.
