Argentina to host MotoGP test

10 April 2013

A MotoGP test session is to be held at Argentina's Circuito Internacional Termas de Río Hondo, ahead of its planned race debut in 2014.

The test will take place in the first week of July, following the Dutch TT at Assen.

MotoGP riders and teams will move swiftly from The Netherlands to Argentina and the province of Santiago del Estero. They will also visit capital city Buenos Aires for a selection of media commitments.

Not all MotoGP teams will attend: "Several representatives of the World Championship - including those of marques such as Honda, Ducati and Yamaha - will take part in official trials in Argentina," read a Dorna statement.

The five-day program will include two days of testing at the circuit.

Argentina, which last hosted a Motorcycle Grand Prix round in 1999, was due to return to the MotoGP calendar this season.

However the event was postponed after the Spanish government advised any teams or riders sponsored by Repsol not to travel due to "safety reasons". That warning has already been lifted.

MotoGP has been absent from South America since the 2004 Rio round.
