Bradl, Smith make Q2

Stefan Bradl fastest during Qualifying 1 for the Spanish MotoGP at Jerez.
Stefan Bradl and Bradley Smith have claimed the last two places for the second and final part of MotoGP qualifying at Jerez.

LCR Honda rider Bradl jumped from third - and out of Q2 contention - into first place on his very final lap, bumping Smith (Tech 3 Yamaha) to second by just 0.005s.

Bradl's gain cost Aspar's Aleix Espargaro a place in Q2, with Ducati wild-card Michele Pirro fourth quickest.

The ten fastest riders after third practice - including CRT rider Hector Barbera - had already secured their places in the Q2 pole position shootout. Those not reaching Q2 will start from 13th on the grid onwards.
