First points for Laverty and PBM

"We have made history with Michael scoring his best GP result and our first constructor's points so I'm absolutely made up. “ - Paul Bird.
MotoGP rookie Michael Laverty took the new PBM bike to its first world championship points in Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez.

And he did it by riding from just 22nd on the grid to 13th at the chequered flag, good enough for third in the privateer CRT class in what was only his third MotoGP race.

"I'm really happy to collect my first MotoGP points and also the first for PBM as a constructor,” said Laverty. “It was a difficult weekend up until race day but the team worked hard as always and came up with some answers for race day.

“We need to improve our pace on new tyres in the early laps as late in the race we are lapping close to the pace of Espargaro, but he is much faster on new rubber. We are getting closer every race and we will keep progressing as we learn more about the PBM machine and begin to maximise its potential."

Paul Bird praised his team's achievement: "We have made history with Michael scoring his best GP result and our first constructor's points so I'm absolutely made up. He rode a sensible and mature race and was rewarded with claiming 13th place at the flag.”

Laverty's PBM machine is powered by an Aprilia ART engine, but unlike the full ART entries, Laverty uses the standard ECU system.

Team-mate Yonny Hernandez, who rides an ART, crashed out.
