Gino Rea will make his return to the Moto2 World Championship during this weekend's fourth round at Le Mans in France.

The former Gresini rider, who intended to race for the new ESGP project this season, was left out of a ride after the team's withdraw due to a lack of funding.

The Englishman responded by putting together a wild-card programme - thanks to help from fans, friends and family.

They have all clubbed together to finance Rea to race an FTR at Le Mans and at least his home British Grand Prix, at Silverstone in September.

"I would not have thought that there were that many people wanting me to get back out on track," said Rea. "I would like to send a huge thank you to everyone. It's all been a great motivation to me and now I'm itching to get back out there."

Rea took third place for Gresini in last October's storm-shortened Malaysian Grand Prix.

That was one of just three points-scoring rides by the former WSS race winner during his rookie grand prix season, which began on a Moriwaki and finished on a Suter. Rea finished the season six places ahead of experienced team-mate Ratthapark Wilairot.
